Janakpur


The most important historical reference of Janakpur is the reference of the Hindu epic Ramayana where Lord Rama’s wife Sita who was also known as Janaki is said to have been a princess there. The King of Janakpur King Janak found baby Sita in a channel and raised her as his daughter. Given this history it’s a major histological point for pilgrims. It is also believed that Gautam Buddha, the father of Buddhist and Vardamana Mahavira, the 24th and final Tirthankara of Jain religion are said to have spent some years in Janakpur. This region was of utmost importance in the first millennium.
