Kagbeni

Situated in the valley of Kali Gandaki, Kagbeni is two hours trek from Muktinath. In early days the Kali Gandaki was one of the major trading routes between Tibet and China, thus Nepal playing an important role between it. Kabeni, today, has   established itself as a tourism hub where Thousands of tourists come from all over the world to explore the scenic and less commercialized area. This is one of the best villages in the whole of Annapurna circuit and must be on you top priority list to visit. The former Mustang Kingdom gives you the real taste of the Mustang style and part of Sakya Mani Buddha tradition. While entering the village one can see the houses are built in a common rectangle with a common outer wall and three little entrance doors. The former fortress is a poorly maintained haphazard site.

On the way between Kagbeni and Jomson you will find a little village called Lupra in a narrow side valley. It is not very easy to find because you cannot see the village from the main Kali Gandaki trail. Another interesting trail goes directly from Jharkot to Lupra. This trail is not very easy to follo so a local guide will come in handy. The trail starts in Jharkot to the left and leads to a pass with excellent views of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri.
